Rachel Estée Sam and William Josiah Rubenstein are to be married Sunday
at the Boston Harbor Hotel in Boston. Rabbi Moshe Waldoks will
officiate, incorporating blessings in Hebrew, English, French and
Cambodian. On Saturday a traditional Khmer wedding celebration was held
at the Sunny Da restaurant in Lowell, Mass., that included a pairing
ceremony, during which ribbons representing blessings were tied on the
wrists of the bride and groom.
The bride, 25, is keeping her name. She is a manager at Global Health
Strategies, a public health consultancy in New York. She works primarily
on polio eradication and H.I.V. prevention. She graduated from Yale,
from which she also received a master’s degree in public health.
She is a daughter of Tioulong Saumura and Sam Rainsy of Phnom Penh,
Cambodia. Mr. Sam Rainsy is the leader of the Cambodian National Rescue
Party, the opposition party. From May 1993 to October 1994, he was
Cambodia’s minister of finance. The bride’s mother is a member of the
Cambodian Parliament from Phnom Penh.
Next week, the groom, 27, is to enter the Icahn School of Medicine at
Mount Sinai in New York. He graduated cum laude from Yale.
He is a son of Dr. Susan R. Gordon and Dr. Mitchell H. Rubenstein of
Brookline, Mass. The groom’s mother is an internist at the Brigham and
Women’s Physician Group in Chestnut Hill, Mass. His father is the vice
chairman for clinical affairs in the dermatology department at Brigham
and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Both are assistant professors at Harvard
Medical School.
